Passage of Time 2012

A collection of work for a group exhibition based on ‘Book forms’.  Building on earlier work and the exploration of layers and fragments, I have become fascinated by the effects of the elements, of time and the aging process.

I have always been interested in the physicality of making and in using elements from the landscape within my work.

Over time, weathering and erosion turn the most robust of natural and manmade features into a fragile state of change, breaking down and building up layer upon layer. I was drawn to the eroded, aged surfaces of rusted metal and driftwood and the idea that they carry with them a sense of history, having survived from turbulent waters.  They no longer fulfil their original function but carry forward with them a character and presence in their new role.
